The Rhone Alps

In typical fashion when we were looking for somewhere in France to break the journey back to the Limousine, we did a lot of research, looked at the maps, decided on a destination. Then went somewhere else.

What a stroke of luck then the we have finished up in Bourg-de’Oisans in the French Rhone Alps for a couple of nights. We’re at Le Château de Rochetaillee, a very nice site, hemmed in on three sides by mountains, some snow covered. Opened the front window “blind” this morning to a mega view- tops of peaks wreathed in cloud. We are some 700 metres in altitude on the edge of the PARC National des Ecrins in the French Alps

4-DSC_4672 It’s no good pretending that we’ll be taking advantage of the extensive and mouth watering alpine walking or biking. Not with my knees! But it’s great to be in a beautiful environment, with clean air and (at last) a temperature more suited to northern Europeans like what we are.

Had lunch in the town, some 8k from the camping site. The place caters for cyclists big style, since the tough passes around here are permanent features of the Tour de France. Lots and lots of keen cyclists around. Lycra and helmets the order of the day. Plus the distinctive tap dance noise of cyclists walking in cycling shoes.

Mr Bojangels anyone?
