The start is very close to Morestead.
We were about 4 years too late to see the crop circles.
But beware – there is an incorrect instruction for the walk. After coming to Cheesefoot Head, crossing the A272 and walking as short distance accross a field the walker is instructed to take a right turn. This would take you towards Winchester. WRONG. You should turn left or, as we did, go straight ahead. This follows an interesting bridleway diagonally accross the hill and then right onto an overgrown and obviosly ancient bridle way.
Cheesefoot Head has an interesting history. In April 1944, this vast natural amphitheatre at was the scene of a big US Army boxing tournament. Thousands of American and British troops filled the steeply sloping banks to see Joe Louis, the heavyweight champion of the world. Cheesefoot Head was also used by General Eisenhower to address the American troops prior to D-Day. More recently the site has been the venue for the Homelands Festival.
