Just love Wiltshire. Stayed with our friend Ronnie for a couple of nights and took the opportunity to visit a couple of National Trust properties.
The Courts Garden – was a repeat visit and we were just as impressed as on ourlast exploration of the large, but still human sized, mainly formal garden. The garden was hosting an exhibition of art works which were displayed in strategic points. Not all of them succesfully added anything to the natural beauty. The sculptures which started to generate a wow were those which had some scale, and were in an open setting.
We mosied on to Stourhead, a beautiful and expansive garden in the grand manner, complete with lake, grotto and several follies. Stourhead is famous for the amazing scene it presents in the Autumn, when the many varieties of trees begin to turn. Unfortunately we were a little too early in the season although there was a definite hint at the sights yet to come.
Needless to say we eat cake in both establishments.
